Refrigerators represent a significant advancement in modern technology. Before refrigeration, food preservation methods often compromised taste and increased the risk of foodborne illnesses. Refrigeration has greatly improved food safety and quality, making fresh food more accessible and reducing the reliance on preservation techniques.

Refrigerators are complex appliances with multiple interconnected systems. The sealed system, which includes the compressor and is filled with refrigerant, is essential for cooling. The air system, comprising fans, circulates air to create separate zones for frozen and fresh foods. Additionally, the wiring and electrical components, such as control boards, temperature sensors, and defrosting elements, play crucial roles. A failure in any of these systems can cause the refrigerator to malfunction, leading to potential food loss and repair costs.

At Sargents Maytag, we understand the frustration of a broken refrigerator. In 2022, when our boss's refrigerator needed a compressor replacement, he didn't have a spare and required a loaner. We promptly provided a loaner and repaired his refrigerator, treating him as we do all our clients. Our commitment to exceptional customer service means going above and beyond to ensure all our clients are well taken care of.

With nearly 50 years in business, we know the importance of maintaining relevance and a strong reputation. Our "secret sauce" is a deliberate approach to change, avoiding rapid expansion that can compromise customer service. We adapt quickly to technological advancements, staying updated on industry changes, such as the new iso-butane refrigerant for refrigerators. This flammable gas requires specialized training for safe handling and repairs, which we ensure through our factory-trained technicians.

Services

Ice Maker & Water Dispenser.

While there are more severe refrigerator problems, not having ice from your ice maker can be particularly annoying. If you're facing this issue, call us to diagnose whether the problem lies with the water valve or the ice module itself. We can identify and resolve the issue quickly.

Leaking Water.

There's nothing more frustrating than finding a puddle of cold water on your kitchen floor from your refrigerator. This is often due to a clogged defrost drain, which should direct water from the defrost cycle to an evaporation pan underneath the unit. While it may seem complicated, this is a straightforward fix for us at Sargent's.

Compressor Replacements.

Compressor replacements and other sealed system repairs are complex tasks requiring specialized equipment, handling fire, and toxic gases. Our owner and several technicians have HVAC training, making them highly skilled in handling refrigerants. If you need a new compressor, evaporator due to a refrigerant leak, or any other component involving refrigerant, trust Sargent's to do the job right the first time.

Too Hot.

As mentioned earlier, if any of the systems in your refrigerator fail, it can lead to warming issues. While this may seem alarming, we can almost always identify the problem. Ideally, it's a minor issue, and we have the necessary part on hand. Whether the issue is electrical or mechanical, Sargent's is equipped to diagnose and repair it swiftly.

Start Relays.

Frequently, companies with less experienced technicians might misdiagnose a bad compressor when the issue is actually with the start relay. The relay starts the compressor, and if it malfunctions, it can seem like the compressor is defective. Diagnosing this accurately takes just a minute longer, but some technicians rush through the process. At Sargent's, we take the time to ensure the correct diagnosis.

Not Defrosting.

One often overlooked but common problem in refrigerators where the fresh food section isn't cooling is related to the defrosting system. The evaporator, which cools the unit, attracts moisture that freezes. Periodically, it needs to defrost to remove this ice. If the defrost system fails, it can prevent the refrigerator section from cooling properly.
